There's a version of this story that's just "I did laundry." But that's not really what this past Sunday was about.

My king size comforter doesn't fit in my washer and dryer, so once in a while, the laundromat it is. This time, it was packed. There was a storm on the way, and it seemed everyone was out running errands trying to beat it.

And it was a little chaotic in there - phones on speaker, loud conversations, kids screaming while running loops, noise coming at me from every direction.

Decades ago, I used to be able to sit in the middle of that and barely notice. Lately, it moves straight through me.

It made me think about elephants; how they find each other across miles of open land, in a frequency too low for most of us to hear. They're not shouting over the noise around them. They're just not tuned to it.

I was trying to do the same - not fighting the noise, but refusing to pick up its frequency.

I got home before the storm did. My dogs found their spots on the couch next to me, and we watched it rush to us and hit the window - loud, sideways, daylight gone dark in the middle of the afternoon.

It was loud. Genuinely loud.

And somehow, it was the quietest I'd felt all day. 🌻

There's this moment that keeps replaying in my mind.
I was at my desk, in my home office, deep in work, when Biscuit gave me this tiny little grunt.

I didn't even have to look. I already knew it was her. And when I turned around, her brother and sister were sitting right next to her. All eagerly waiting for me to get off my computer.

So I followed them outside and sat on my deck steps. My favorite place in the world and just... watched them.

🔸 Biscuit found a sunny patch of grass and stretched out.
🔸Bullet made his rounds looking for dandelions to eat - our little lawn mower.
🔸 Lily spotted a bumblebee and was absolutely off to the races.

Each of them fully in their own world.

And I started thinking... they don't even need me out here.

But then I noticed it: Every now and then - just a quick glance back.
Not asking for anything.
Just checking to see if I was still there.

"She's here. Okay. Good".

And something about that stopped me completely.

Because presence doesn't always look like doing something. Sometimes it just looks like being the kind of steady that lets someone else relax fully into their own joy.

That's what they were doing out there - completely, fully themselves - because they knew I was on those steps.

I want to be that for the people I love. Someone whose presence makes others feel safe enough to just... be themselves.

And that is another beautiful lesson my 3 pups have taught me that day. 🐾 🌻

A love letter to my husband:

Some penguins propose with a pebble.

They search until they find exactly the one that feels just right, then they quietly place it at the feet of the one they've chosen.

If it's accepted, they begin building a nest together.

Today marks 25 years since we began building ours.

When we got married, we were barely adults ourselves. Just two teenagers standing at the beginning of a life we couldn't possibly imagine. We had no idea who we would become and no idea what life would ask of us.

People often talk about growing old together, but I think something even more beautiful happens: You grow into yourselves together.

The boy I married isn't the man sitting beside me today, and I'm certainly not the girl he married.

Life softened us in some places and strengthened us in others. It brought joy we never expected, seasons we never would have chosen, and countless ordinary days that quietly became our life.

Through all of it, we kept choosing each other.

Looking back, I don't think our marriage was built by one grand romantic gesture.
It was built by thousands of tiny pebbles.

🔸 Flowers on an ordinary day.
🔸 A kiss before work every morning.
🔸 A sunset texted in the middle of the day because he knew I'd want to see it too.
🔸 A chore quietly done because he knew I disliked it and vice-versa.
🔸 Sitting beside me on the deck because it's my favorite place.

Tiny things. Almost forgettable on their own, but over 25 years, they became a home.

And if someone asked me today what the greatest adventure of my life has been, it wouldn't be a place we've gone or something we've accomplished.

It would be this: Watching two teenagers slowly uncover who they were always meant to be, and discovering that every new version still chooses the other.

Happy 25th anniversary, my love. 💕 Thank you for every pebble.

There's a street near our house where my dogs know they're safe. It's quiet with barely any traffic.

So when something caught their attention on our walk one morning, they wandered straight into the middle of the road. Noses down. Fully gone, lost in whatever they'd found.

They didn't see the car coming, but I did. Still a distance away, but coming closer.

I pulled them back to the curb and they looked at me like I had interrupted the best discovery of their lives. How dare I? 😆

They couldn't understand what I could see from where I stood.

That moment stayed with me, because it made me think about our own struggles. The ones we can't always make sense of while we're in them.

How many doors have closed on you before you were ready? How many people drifted away before you understood why?

From the ground, you only see the street in front of you. From higher up, it all looks different: the danger you never saw, the hand that pulled you back just in time.

You may never fully understand why certain things were taken from your path.

But maybe, like my dogs, all you have to do is trust the one guiding you and keep walking. 🌻

There's a particular kind of disorientation that comes right after the pieces scatter.

The ache deep in your chest when a familiar path bends somewhere you didn't choose. Loss, in any of its forms:
🔸 A life you knew.
🔸 Someone you loved.
🔸 A version of yourself you'd grown used to being.

And right behind it, the fear of not knowing what comes next. You held that familiar path so tightly that losing it left you genuinely disoriented. You just wanted to sit down right there and not get up.

That's usually when regret shows up. It follows loss and fear almost every time. The what-ifs, the whys, the quiet interrogation of every decision you did or didn't make. A knot rising in your throat before you even understand why.

I remember a sky gone dark, and a road disappearing into fog so thick I couldn't see three steps ahead. I hesitated. I didn't want to walk into something I couldn't see.

But there wasn't another way through. So I kept walking anyway.

Then, birds started singing before I could see clearly.
Wildflowers showed up along the edges, like they'd been waiting for me.

When the fog finally lifted, it wasn't the road I'd started on.

It was one I never would have chosen. But I was standing in the middle of it, and it was beautiful. 🌻

My mom said that to me once, when I was a teenager arguing to fit in with the crowd. At the time it just felt like her way of saying no and it stung a little.

Years later those words came back to me meaning something completely different:

✨ Out of billions of people, there has never been, and will never be, another you.

Your way of seeing, feeling, thinking, loving. Your timing. Your voice... All entirely yours.

A field of wildflowers isn't beautiful because every bloom looks the same. Each one opens at its own pace, in its own shade, toward its own particular angle of light. That's what makes the whole field breathtaking.

Your bloom is your own.
You are exactly, specifically, irreplaceably you. 🌻

We got rejected for a loan when trying to purchase our first home and that was the best thing that ever happened to us!

I remember applying for the loan, young and hopeful, already picturing ourselves there. But the answer made us feel like the floor was dropping out. DENIED!

This home would be perfect for someone, but for us, we couldn't see what we couldn't see yet: the constant heavy traffic on that street , the non-exiting yard, the driveway with nowhere for anyone to park. All the small things that would have quietly worn on us over the years.

The other day, when we drove past it, the ache I felt so long ago, was fully replaced with relief... And gratitude for a door that stayed shut at the time. Because the home we have now fits us so much better.

A big yard where the dogs can actually run, a quiet neighborhood with no traffic at all, room for guests to park when they visit...

I've learned to look at closed doors very differently now. Not as endings, but as redirection. A hand turning me gently by the shoulder, toward somewhere I couldn't yet see. Usualy redirection to a much better outcome.🌻

I want to always be someone who:

🔸 Talks to her dogs like they understand everything - because they do;
🔸 Stops whatever she's doing to admire a sunset - and take pictures;
🔸 Notices the wildflowers colors when no one else does - it makes me happy;
🔸 Listens to the birds before she sees them - it's so very relaxing;
🔸 Follows ladybugs and lightning bugs like she's ten, and...
🔸 Feels most like herself with bare feet on the ground.

That hasn't changed for me in as many years as I have been alive. 🌻
